It is odd that as a manager at an engineering firm, it is hard to find students or recent graduates with good problem-solving skills. I have started throwing new hires “to the wolves” with the reassurance that I will be there for them when they have any issues. Encouraging them to work through their problems has caused one of our recent hires to really start to flourish.

I really think that this style of management is important for this new generation of college graduates. Gone are the days of forceful delegation and micromanagement.
